The Stonefaced Stalkers
Since their introduction over 60 years ago, CCTV has always had an ominous feel to us all - the idea that we are being watched by this unseen pair of eyes, our every move recorded, often without our perception or consent. They betray no emotion of the watcher themselves, being the stone-cold sober judges of our actions while in front of the lens.
I wanted to embody this detatched yet all-knowing presence in our lives to make people consider who has access to these ubiquitous eyes. Using jesmontie, I made a model of a CCTV camera to symbolise both the stone objectivity with which cameras observe us, and their omniscient presence that, if these systems were ever combined, could essentially track our every move.
